Preparing our Gardens for Spring Planting

The children have spent a lot of time weeding their garden plots. They used lawn clippings as a mulch and then placed cardboard over the top to keep the soil warm and moist ready for planting next term.

Baking with Danique

Dannielle and Delrio had a great opportunity to put their maths knowledge into action in a recent baking session with Danique. 

First they used their knowledge of fractions to halve the recipe, then they had fun measuring, mixing, cooking and eating a yummy muesli slice. 

A published illustrator!

Delrio is thrilled to have been chosen as the illustrator for the front cover of our homework books. Congratulations, Delrio!

Marbling on Ice

On Friday mornings Taieri Beach School children have been learning about properties of ice, and conducting some little experiments, where they have been predicting outcomes, observing & describing what they see. The last activity with ice was to paint onto trays of ice where the paint initially froze then as the ice thawed we saw some beautiful marbling.

Maths - Learning about Mass

This week we have been comparing the weight of objects using ruler "see-saws" and measuring scales. We have been encouraging the children to use words such as heavier and lighter to compare the weight of objects.

At home you might like to make your own "see-saw"  and then use it to compare the weights of small objects.
