Taieri Mouth Wetlands

We had a very enjoyable day exploring the Taieri Mouth Wetlands. There were paradise ducks, pied stilts, pukekos, a goose and a family of mallard ducks - a drake, duck and baby ducklings.
A stunning setting for our wildlife.

Connecting with Nature

Taieri Beach School is situated near the peaceful seaside village of Taieri Mouth, 15 minutes from Lake Waihola and a scenic 30 minute commute south of Dunedin City.

We recognise that quality time outdoors in nature has a calming but at the same time invigorating effect on children and adults alike. Interacting with nature helps children to develop an understanding about how the world works and helps develop connections with other people and the natural environment.

At Taieri Beach School, we strongly believe that children need plenty of opportunities to develop an  appreciation of nature. We are fortunate to have fantastic grounds with native trees and plants which are regularly visited by native birds. The school is within walking distance of the beach, rock pools, wetlands, river mouth, bush walks and glow worms.

Regular use of these wonderful resources allow us to help our children flourish and become truly empowered.
