Bird Spotting
We started working on what information we would need to design a bird brochure to show visitors who came to the school just how spoilt we are with our bird life at TBS. We worked in the tent and recorded all the different bird species we spotted and were treated by watching the 2 baby blue herons high up in the tree. Indy was able to see the mum fly back to feed her very noisy babies.
During that session we spotted the following:
- Blue heron
- Southern black backed Gull
- Welcome swallow
- Chaffinch
- Magpie
- Australian Marsh Harrier
- Tui
- Fantail
- Starling
- Blackbird
- Heard a grey Warbler singing but couldn't see it
- Heard a Shining Cuckoo call but couldn't see it ( trying to teach them to also identify by song )
- Goldfinch
How spoilt are we to have all these just by sitting on the school field for a few hours.

Nature Experiences with Chrissie
Chrissie's Report
This week the children wanted to work on the hide and I let them decide what they wanted to do to improve it.
We had spoken about having a flag and a sign on the photographic hide so they were very keen to get working on those items this week.
Ryker made his flag last Friday, he learnt how to plait cabbage leaves and I helped him tie them together to make a flag shape. He wanted to decorate it with red flowers so birds might like to land on it .
Maddy also wanted to make a flag and she decided on 2 strips of plaitted cabbage leaves with flowers weaved into them, making it look very pretty. She choose a very long stick to attach it to so it can be seen from afar.
Indy wanted to use flax and weave a flag, she taught me how to weave as I haven't tried it before. She found a feather and positioned it onto her flax weave making it a very unique art piece.
Isla was keen to design and name the hide, she operated the drill and pre drilled holes in the sign so Delrio could attach it to a stick once the sign was completed and shortened.
Delrio was able to saw the sign a little smaller and drilled the sign to the sticks. He positioned it at their hide and also did a little maintenance work filling areas with grass clippings that were a little bare.
