Bug Café

Local building firm, Taieri Beach School, has started construction of the Bug City Café.

It was important to ensure the nectar drinks on offer appealed to a wide variety of  bugs and insects.

Property Consultant, Gordon Thompson, aka Inspector Insector from Earthlore Wildlife Gardens, designed the Bug City signs and the café furniture.

The children learnt a lot about soil preparation, planting the Alyssum plants with care so the roots are not damaged  and watering the transplanted plants so they will survive the heat.

Mrs Stoff and the children found lots of kowhai seedlings underneath our beautiful kowhai tree. They have transplanted them into pots and will tend for them so they can sell them at the Jumble Sale.

Insect life in the swimming pool

The children were intrigued to find this moth and ladybug in the swimming pool recently. They wondered how did they get there and what food would they eat in our covered swimming pool area.

Photos of bugs

The children found it was not that easy to get photographs of bugs especially as the bugs wouldn't stay still for long.
