Tent time...We were kindly donated two tents which we opened up to double check the poles and pegs were all there and the tents had no holes. Ryker put up the first tent. Reina counted all the pegs and we decided it is going to be great for working outside while bird spotting. It has an opening on each side so we can view from both sides.

We all searched an animals foot size and have been hoping to draw them with chalk outside on the asphalt so we could compare them and have fun seeing how very different their shapes and sizes are. When we have a sunny, warm day we will get around to doing this but we know for sure that the elephant with definitely win because his foot size is over 50cm! 🐘

Discovery Outside Number 3
Maddy enjoyed her outside discovery time by showing me all the amazing trees at Taieri Beach school that she climbs and hides in when playing with her friends. She decided to paint a picture of the trees and used cotton wool that she coloured with paint for the clouds. Great imagination and creativity Maddy!

Discovery Outside Number 2
Reina also went searching for insects and found earthworms deep in our veggie patch. We learnt about the root systems in plants while pulling out weeds and played a guessing game. One person would pull out the weeds and hide the roots then the other person had to guess whether it would be a tap or fibrous root system.
It is such fun finding plants that have a spongy feel, some are smooth and others prickly, definitely not nice to touch. Reina ended off her outside discovery with a wonderful mud birthday cake that had lots of twigs for candles and berry icing!
Ryker had lots of fun searching for insects around the school with his giant magnifying glass and using a macro lens to take a photo of each insect. He took a closer look at all the details you can see on a fly and slater and discovered such interesting information. Ryker wanted to know what the lines were on the flys wings. We thought they might be veins but after he Google searched we learnt they are called Flex lines and help the fly to fly really well. He also couldn't believe how compound eyes work and now understands why they are so fast when you try swatting them becAUse they can see so well from all sides!!
It was so good to work outside on our bean bags in front of the bird feeder, watching the bellbird chase away the sparrows from the sugar water but it wasn't brave eNough to chase the Tui's away.
