Kite making for Matariki

On the last day of term we made kites with Mrs Lunn. Kites were often flown at Matariki, but also at other times: They were used to work out what the gods wanted the people to do. They were a way of sending messages to people far away, both to living people who were far away and people who had died.
We used toi toi stalks and strips of paper. We used string to tie the toi toi stalks together. We used Māori patterns on the strips of paper. It was a lot of fun and we really enjoyed it.
